I've been doing Intentional You for five years now, and, every year, RR talks about how the Lovers was once the Lover, but she can never remember how she knows that or where she read it, which frustrates the hell out of me. I'm a researcher, an academic who likes to know where things come from, especially if we're spouting the information as fact out there in the material world.
This morning I was up at 4 AM, as usual -- we have cats -- and decided to search one more time for the origin of the shift from the Lover to the Lovers - and found it!
In an article by Sherryl E. Smith on tarot-heritage.com entitled L'Amore/L'Amoreux/The Lovers, it says, "Thanks to the Golden Dawn, this card experienced a name shift in English from The Lover to The Lovers (plural)."
Finally.
